amethyst??
OK, so ive been looking over my jewels, I have this big rock that looks like a purple amethyst. How can I be sure that without the assistance of a jewler. if it is an amethyst, is something worth?
Previous person gave a good answer. Amethyst is actually quartz, which had melted into one another mineral SiO2 when cooled. Minerals same with citrine, but different. Quartz is the most common mineral / rock with a lot forms. Other minerals bother when it is cooling due to the large number of colors.
